GEENA DAVIS – EXECUTIVE PRODUCING
Geena Davis’ college experience has always honed her for the movies. The Boston University alumna graduated with a degree in drama before she worked part-time as a model. She clinched fame in the 1988 film Beetlejuice and The Accidental Tourist, garnering various accolades from award-winning bodies. Come the 1990s, Davis’s career seemed to have waned a little, leaving her with just a couple of projects to work on. Fortunately, this did not dampen the actress’s spirit.
Davis found another calling with her gender equality advocacy in media. In 2004, Davis established the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, which she launched only with her own investment money. Davis was inspired to push for her advocacy after realizing the unfair treatment women celebrities get in roles and salaries on the silver screen. Still working for the foundation, Davis is also an executive producer for the children’s animated series titled I AM, which is about girl empowerment.
